6/27/18 – Fruity Alcohols

Welcome to Five Course Trivia! Five days a week, we’ll post five questions about something from the culinary world, from soup to nuts and all dishes in between.

Before we get to my embarrassing Mexican mess up, we have a question from last weekend we need to review.

LearnedLeague precedent (LL77 Midseason Classic) – Chambord liqueur is produced with honey, vanilla, citrus peel, and cognac, with an infusion predominantly of what fruit?

I did not know this. Even though I should have, because apparently I’ve missed this question in various venues in the past, including a previous MiniLeague and a Quizzing Circuit of America event. As I’ve expressed before, I’m not great at alcohol, and this was another case. At least it wasn’t during the season.

So, in the spirit of the spirits, a quick quiz. I’ll give you a spirit, and you have to name the fruit that is predominately used to make it.

1. Gin
2. Calvados
3. Kirsch
4. Crème de cassis
5. Pálinka (from Hungary)
6. Cognac
7. Tepache (from Mexico)
8. Arrack (from Indonesia/Sri Lanka)

1. Juniper berry
2. Apples
3. Cherries
4. Blackcurrants
5. Apricots
6. Grapes
7. Pineapples
8. Coconut
