Welcome to Five Course Trivia! Five days a week, we’ll post five questions about something from the culinary world, from soup to nuts and all dishes in between.
After having to finish a paper, I am now back. And we had a F/D question earlier this week, so let’s discuss it.
LearnedLeague precedent (LL75, MD14) – What drink served to British sailors in the Age of Sail, consisting (typically) of rum mixed with water, takes its name from the nickname borne by 18th-century British Admiral Edward Vernon from the waterproof cloak he wore?
The only word I knew that had to do with both rum and ships was “grog”, and I’m glad that was right. I had no idea that grog referred to an article of clothing. With this question, I’m 5 for 6.
Today, let’s go over some more cocktails that include rum. Enjoy matey!
1. In a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, rum makes up the “dark”. What drink makes up the “stormy”?

2. Name the drink seen here, made with rum, vodka, Curaçao, and pineapple juice. It was first created in 1957 by bartender Harry Yee, which is four years before the movie that shares its name.

3. With a name reflected how it was created by British Army soldiers in the 1890s, name this drink of black tea and rum.

4. Name the word obscured in this photo.

5. While the Hurricane cocktail made with rums and fruit juice is known for its curved glass, it is often served in what kind of container in New Orleans, where it was invented?

6. ¿Cual bebida se prepara con ron, curacao, vermut y granadina, y comparte su nombre con un título para Lincoln o Roosevelt?
