Welcome to Five Course Trivia! Five days a week, we’ll post five questions about something from the culinary world, from soup to nuts and all dishes in between.
I hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend, and a merry Christmas. You wouldn’t believe how many books I got.
Last Saturday at sundown was also the kickoff to a week+ of Hanukkah! In celebration, let’s review some of the foods you’d/you’ll probably enjoy during eight days of the Festival of Lights. Chag Sameach!
1. Coming from the Hebrew for “sponge”, name this classic Hanukkah good, a deep-fried jelly doughnut topped with powdered sugar, similar to a Berliner.

2. You’re spinning the dreidel, and now’s your chance to win all the gelt (sorry, not much trivia to ask about gelt). Which of these results will get you to win the entire pot?

3. Name the classic potato dish seen here, enjoyed during Hanukkah, but not really enjoyed during Hanukkah in Israel, as Question 1 has surpassed this one as the most popular Hanukkah food.

4. What dip is almost always served alongside Question 3? This dip will usually include cinnamon, but can also feature spices like cloves and nutmeg.
5. Although not fried in oil, name this pastry made of a triangular dough made with sour cream or cream cheese, and filled nut, chocolate, or fruit fillings.
