Welcome to Five Course Trivia! Five days a week, we’ll post five questions about something from the culinary world, from soup to nuts and all dishes in between.
The Just Images: Space MiniLeague kicks off tomorrow, and I assume food will be featured, since I’m sure LuskT will cover most of the LL categories, not just Science, Television, and Film. Thus, here’s five questions about space food. Enjoy!
1. Of course we’re going to have a question about Tang. “Tang sucks” according to Buzz Aldrin, but what does he know? While Tang was originally a product of General Foods in 1957, Tang is a property of what multinational company, considered the successor of Kraft Foods Inc? Its name comes from a portmanteau of “world” and “delicious” in Romance languages, and also owns the brands Oreo, Cadbury, and Trident.

2. While in the Friendship 7 in 1962, John Glenn became the first American to eat in space. Besides the xylose sugar tablets and water, he enjoyed what food, packed in a tube? This food is often served with latkes, and is sometime used as a substitute for “Nonsense!” or “Poppycock!”

3. Name the fruit that has been blocked out of this picture. This is certainly of interest to Delawareans, as the official state dessert of the state is a custard pie made with this fruit.

4. On July 20th, 1969, Buzz Aldrin became the first person to eat and drink on the surface of the moon, with elements he smuggled without NASA’s knowledge. Name both the drink and the food, which were taken together.
5. The candy bar seen here has both an astronomical name in the United States, and a different astronomical name in the United Kingdom. Name the US one, then name the UK one.

Tomorrow: World Wednesday is back, and we’re going old school. The “old school” will actually be Plato’s Academy.

That’s a peach? Yeah no wonder it came back.
I seem to recall one of the early astronauts also smuggled some whisky onto a flight.
